AH1N1 Advisory

The University Malaya has issued an advisory on AH1N1 as follows

1. All International Staff intending to join the University of Malaya are requested to observe self-imposed hotel quarantine for seven(7) consecutive days from the date of arrival in Malaysia before reporting to the University of Malaya.

2. All students & staff of the University of Malaya are strongly advised NOT TO TRAVEL OVERSEAS for the present moment, as an interim precautionary measure. However, if it is still unavoidable or inescapeable, the concerned traveller should exercise utmost restraint & prudence by observing all recommended health measures.

3. All students & Staff of the University of Malaya who are currently overseas or have recently gone overseas for Official visits, Seminars & Conferences, holidays etc, are respectfully requested to observe self-imposed home quarantine for seven (7) consecutive days from the date of arrival in Malaysia.

4. Should an individual show the following symptoms:
a) High fever (>38°C); ANDb) One or more of the following respiratory symptoms: cough, shortness of breath, body ache, difficulty in breathing, ANDc) One or more of the following: close contact with a person diagnosed as Influenza A (H1N1) OR recent travel to an area reporting cases of confirmed Influenza A (H1N1).

5. The Government of Malaysia can invoke the Prevention & Control of Infectious Diseases Act (1988) on anyone who contravenes this Act, ie a fine of RM10,000/- or a jail-term of two(2) years or both.
